Observational Studies/Case Reports
A retrospective study of samples from a prior trial conducted in sickle cell disease patients found that daily intake of gum arabic had also significantly decreased C reactive protein levels. Kaddam 2020
Gum arabic (Acacia Senegal) administration (30 g/day for 12 weeks) significantly decreased total cholesterol, triglyceride, and low-density lipoprotein concentrations, with no effect on high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, in patients with sickle cell anemia (N=47). Kaddam 2019
In a human study (N=47), administration of gum arabic (30 g/day) from Acacia senegal for up to 12 weeks significantly decreased serum levels of direct bilirubin and alanine transaminase but not aspartate transaminase at 4-8 weeks, as well as urea for the first month only, in patients with sickle cell anemia.
