ABC recently redesigned its website, www.herbalgram.org, to enhance its look and to make it more user friendly. Because of the large quantity of information, which continually expands, the site needed an update and easier navigation. The site now provides different levels of access, based on membership benefits. The new site, launched in September, features a login option that allows members to access materials, such as its Botanical Booklet series, previously available only in print through ABC’s Herbal Education Catalog, along with new materials as they are produced.
To reflect the graphic look of other ABC publications (e.g., HerbalGram), art director Sean Barnes created a graphic template for the website. His design also allows for easier viewing of each page and speeds navigation.
ABC worked with Austin-based Interactive Ensemble, Inc. (IE) to design the new website. Using content management software developed by IE, ABC staff members now monitor and change their particular areas on a more timely basis. This frees webmaster Trey Bennett to work on more complicated aspects of the website, such as the new virtual tour of the Case Mill gardens.
In August, the site was recommended in The Nurses’ Guide to Consumer Health Websites published by Springer Publishing Company, Inc. Nurses expert in more than 40 specialties reviewed hundreds of sites for high quality content, suitable for consumer use. Only one to six sites were chosen in each specialty area. This is the latest honor the site has earned for its content and design.
Comments and suggestions about the website should be directed to webmaster@herbalgram.org.
