Herb Industry Pioneer Ben Zaricor Dies at 74

Ben R. Zaricor, owner of Fmali Inc. and Good Earth Tea Company, passed away at his home in Soquel, California, on June 8, 2022. Ben was a founder of the Herb Trade Association and served as one of its “tri-presidents” from 1976 to 1977. He also was one of the founders of Botanicals International, a major botanical import and distribution company based in California. His activism opened up new opportunities for herbs and botanicals in the United States market. Read more >>

Sustainable Herbs Program Director Ann Armbrecht, PhD, recounts a trip to Nicaragua to meet with producers, manufacturers, and farmers who are forming partnerships to support community development and increase the output and profit margin of various botanicals, including turmeric. By cultivating medicinal and aromatic plants in addition to coffee, farmers can count on incomes that are less reliant on market fluctuations. Steven Foster Honored with Trail and Glade Dedication in Eureka Springs during Celebration of Life Ceremony

At the celebration of life ceremony for Steven Foster, the author, photographer, and botanist was honored with a trail and glade named after him at Lake Leatherwood City Park in Eureka Spring, Arkansas. During the ceremony, which included a plant walk along the newly dedicated “Foster Trail,” friends and colleagues remembered Foster’s legacy as a scholar, Ozark plant expert, and artist.
