Herb Expert Christopher Hobbs Donates 1636 Edition of Gerard’s Historic Herbal to ABC
By Tyler Smith

In December 2021, herbalist, author, and researcher Christopher Hobbs, PhD, LAc, donated a 1636 edition of John Gerard’s The Herball or Generall Historie of Plantes to ABC. Commonly known as Gerard’s Herbal, the text is one of the most famous and influential English herbals — a term that refers to books that contain descriptions and other information about selected medicinal plants. Featured Book
The Mind of Plants cover
The Mind of Plants: Narratives of Vegetal Intelligence was edited by John C. Ryan, Patricia Vieira, and Monica Gagliano and published by Synergetic Press in 2021. The excerpt includes the title page, table of contents, introduction, and foreword by Dennis J. McKenna, PhD.

The Mind of Plants takes a cerebral and creative approach to human-plant interaction. This collection of essays, narratives, and poetry also features personal reflections from the editors and illustrations by José María Pout. The exploration of how humans interact with plants and plants interact with each other brings together works from contributors who focus on both the scientific and the spiritual. Plants as commonplace as apples and as psychoactive as ayahuasca all play a part in the betterment of nature and humanity, and many aspects of botanical intelligence are honored in this text.
