Betulae folium, birch leaf.
Birch leaf consists of the fresh or dried leaf of Betula pendula Roth (syn. B. verrucosa Ehrhart), or B. pubescens Ehrhart [Fam. Betulaceae], or of both species, as well as its preparations in effective dosage.
The leaves contain at least 1.5 percent flavonoids, calculated as hyperoside and expressed in terms of the dried herb. In addition to flavonoids, the herb contains saponin, tannins and essential oil.
Unless otherwise prescribed:
Average daily dosage:
- 2 - 3 g of herb several times daily;
- equivalent preparations.
Comminuted herb or dry extracts for teas, as well as other galenical preparations and freshly pressed plant juices for oral use.
Note:For irrigation therapy, observe copious fluid intake.
