New Bulletin on Nigella Seed and Seed Oil Adulteration Published by ABC-AHP-NCNPR Botanical Adulterants Prevention Program
AUSTIN, Texas (October 4, 2022) — The ABC-AHP-NCNPR Botanical Adulterants Prevention Program has issued a Botanical Adulterants Prevention Bulletin on nigella (Nigella sativa) seed and seed oil. Also referred to in commerce as “black seed” or “black cumin,”* nigella has a long history of use as a food and traditional medicine, especially in the Middle East.
AHPA Statement on Purported Association of White Mulberry Leaf with Tragic Death
AUSTIN, Texas (August 31, 2022) — ABC is sending to its supporters the notice that was sent out from the American Herbal Products Association in which AHPA provides some detail and perspective on recent media stories about the unfortunate death of a woman who ingested a white mulberry leaf. A consensus of herb experts familiar with the well-established safety of mulberry leaf do not believe that any causal association is warranted, despite the coroner’s report and the uncritical media coverage of this incident.
ABC Presents 2022 Mark Blumenthal Herbal Community Builder Award to Emily Ruff
The American Botanical Council has presented its 2022 Mark Blumenthal Herbal Community Builder Award to Emily Ruff, a community herbalist, director of Sage Mountain Botanical Sanctuary in Vermont, and founder and CEO of the Florida School of Holistic Living.
